Blackboard selects MVPs with four criteria in mind: knowledgeable, engaged, accessible, and collaborative. In this role, Ms. Putnam and Dr. Stephens lead the Blackboard User Community, providing guidance and assistance online and in person.  Associate Professor Dr. Stephens, a past Technology Resource Center Faculty Fellow at Wayne State, is a campus leader. Under her guidance, Wayne State’s Technology Resource Center Faculty Support Team was named a winner of the Blackboard Catalyst Award for Staff Development, which honors those members of the community who use Blackboard solutions to create, support and enhance faculty and staff development skills, providing a better organization-wide learning experience in 2013. As an MVP, she’ll be able to share her expertise with the Blackboard community. Dr. Stephens said, “I truly enjoy working with my WSU faculty colleagues to design and/or enhance their hybrid and online courses. The varied scenarios provide opportunities for me to continue exploring instructional strategies to further support student engagement.” Kriss Putnam, Lead Applications Technical Analyst in the Academic Applications Team, has become a big part of the Blackboard community in her fifteen years working with the product. She has been a participant in both the BbWorld and DevCon committees and is the chief engineer responsible for Blackboard at Wayne State. Her technical expertise will be a strong asset to the Blackboard community. Ms. Putnam said, “It's an honor to be recognized by Blackboard and to be a part of the MVP program. I have been successful as a Blackboard administrator only because I'm surrounded by such a great group of technologists here at C&IT. Being in such a great environment has allowed me to expand my knowledge and experience and share that with the equally wonderful global Blackboard community.” Having one Blackboard MVP is an honor, but having two of our Blackboard power-users selected is truly indicative of the strong Blackboard community present at Wayne State. WSU CIO and Associate Vice President of C&IT Joe Sawasky said, "We are thrilled to have two national Blackboard MVP recipients. Kriss and Geralyn have worked tirelessly, along with other members of the WSU team, to support Wayne State's growing online learning programs. The fact that both a faculty member and a technology professional received the award at Wayne State demonstrates the high level of collaboration present on our campus." The Exemplary Course Program recognizes faculty and course designers from schools, colleges, and universities around the world who develop exciting and innovative courses that represent the very best in technology and learning. The Reviewer Council was formed to help share knowledge and foster teamwork around course design, to provide an elevated professional development opportunity for educators and instructional designers, and to enhance the quality of course reviews provided to Exemplary Course Program submitters. Dr. Geralyn Stephens, Associate Professor (Clinical), College of Education, lead the Wayne State University Reviewer Council team that included Cindy Sulad, Associate Director, Blackboard Support, Computing & Information Technology, Dr. Sara Kacin, Assistant Director, Office of Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Fay Martin, Associate Professor (Clinical), School of Social Work. "The Reviewer Council provides an excellent opportunity for the Exemplary Course Program Directors to scale the program and expand the reach of those who can effectively evaluate the quality of course design," said Dr. Deborah Everhart, Exemplary Course Program Director. “We look forward to working with the Reviewer Council on an ongoing basis to exponentially increase effective practices benefiting faculty and learners.” Wayne State University will be honored for their contributions to the Reviewer Council during BbWorld® 2014, Blackboard’s annual user conference to be held in July in Las Vegas, Nevada.
