What is it?

C&IT's Research Consulting Service (RCS) provide a broad range of consultative services on the use of computer technology at any phase of the research process:

DESIGN:
Sound research design is the key element for conducting studies that are both valid and generalizable, and Research Consulting Service is well-prepared to advise on important aspects of design. Relying on both formal academic training and research experiences, RCS will help you refine research questions; select methods and procedures; identify populations and selecting samples; and plan implementation of your research study.
IMPLEMENTATION:
The major outcome of the implementation phase is the data for analysis, which must be collected and recorded with care because the data represent the empirical embodiment of the research problem. Although the nature of a specific study determines the kinds of help you may need, several aspects of the research process are common to most studies, such as producing questionnaires, preparing data for statistical analysis, and advice/training on the use of word processing programs and text editors for data organization, storage, and retrieval.
ANALYSIS:
The academic and research experience the Research Consulting Service encompasses the full spectrum of analytic techniques from simple descriptive statistics to multivariate analyses. You will be assisted with the statistical and graphics programs available from the C&IT Software Clearinghouse; selecting appropriate statistical procedures; selecting programs that satisfy your data analysis needs; and setting up data and commands in accordance with specific software requirements.
REPORTING:
Once your data have been analyzed, your next step is to incorporate results into the text of your research article, thesis, or dissertation. The Research Consulting Service helps the Wayne State research community produce high-quality research publications by integrating word processing, graphics, and statistical analyses into final documents, and formatting text, tables, and bibliographies to meet departmental, university, or publication specifications.
