Security
Wayne State University's Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) organization works with the campus community to provide a safe computing environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Using administrative and academic computer systems, the campus community communicates and shares information and knowledge for research, learning, and creativity — on and off campus and with our global neighbors. C&IT is responsible for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of that information.
C&IT has the following responsibilities to ensure the security of the university's IT infrastructure:
Firewalls and Network Access Control:
- Inspect network activity to deny or permit traffic based on a set of rules or signatures.
- Provide authorized access to specific network based resources after successfully complying with pre-defined checks.
Intrusion Detection:
- Scan, detect, and respond to security threats and vulnerabilities, internally and externally, to the WSU network.
Enterprise Role-based Access:
- Assign application permission and roles for various job functions to WSU faculty and staff members or other system users.
Security Awareness and Education:
- Provide information and training to all WSU students, faculty, and staff regarding the protection of information assets — both personal and institutional.
