Security
The Information Security Office (ISO) in Wayne State University's Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) organization works with the campus community to provide a safe computing environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Using administrative and academic computer systems, the campus community communicates and shares information and knowledge for research, learning, and creativity — on and off campus and with our global neighbors. The ISO is responsible for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of that information.
The ISO has the following responsibilities to ensure the security of the university's IT infrastructure:
Firewalls and Network Access Control:
- Inspect network activity to deny or permit traffic based on a set of rules or signatures.
- Provide authorized access to specific network based resources after successfully complying with pre-defined checks.
Intrusion Detection:
- Scan, detect, and respond to security threats and vulnerabilities, internally and externally, to the WSU network.
Enterprise Role-based Access:
- Assign application permission and roles for various job functions to WSU faculty and staff members or other system users.
Security Awareness and Education:
- Provide information and training to all WSU students, faculty, and staff regarding the protection of information assets — both personal and institutional.
