ResNet Connection for WSU Residence Halls

ResNet is the WSU campus network that provides a dedicated network connection for students living in Wayne State's South Hall, Ghafari Hall (formerly North Hall), The Towers Residential Suites, or University Tower. All rooms are wired for an Internet connection. To connect your computer to the Internet using the Ethernet port in your room, follow these instructions.

Hardware Requirements

Any computer purchased in the past two years should meet the minimum requirements. For recommended specifications, see the following sites:

Ethernet Card

Your computer must have at least a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network card installed. Most new computers come with a network card when purchased. However, if you have an older computer, you may need to purchase one from a computer store and install it yourself or get it installed at the C&IT PC Clinic.

Getting connected

  1. Read the Wayne State University policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources and the ResNet policy. Any misuse of the network may result in permanent disconnection and disciplinary charges under the Student Code of Conduct.
  2. Connect your computer to the data jack using a straight-through (not crossover) Ethernet cable you purchased. We recommend Category 6 or Category 5e cable in lengths of 6' or 10'.
  3. Turn on your computer.
  4. Open an Internet browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Safari) and log in using your AccessID and password.

It is important to note that you are responsible for ALL network activity that occurs while logged in under your AccessID. Make sure that you log out before a roommate or friend uses your computer.
