C&IT Wireless Access Point Use Policy

By University policy Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) is responsible for all voice, data and video networks, wired and wireless, at Wayne State University. In this role C&IT requires that all wireless access points be registered and be connected to the University wireless Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN). Doing so ensures that access to the network is secured, that a common user interface is presented, and that channels are allocated so as to reduce interference.

If you have your own departmental wireless access points connected to the network, please contact the C&IT network engineer assigned to your building to arrange for them to be moved into the wireless VLAN. Once this is done C&IT will assume maintenance for these devices (including replacement when they fail). We may also relocate the device to provide more uniform coverage in the building.
