[News from Computing & Information Technology – August 28, 2006]
Temporary wireless Internet access is now available for guests and visitors to the Wayne State University main and medical campuses.
Any WSU employee can sponsor conference attendees, speakers and other campus guests so they can connect a laptop computer, Pocket PC or Palm OS-based PDA with wireless capability in the 20 buildings currently covered by the university's wireless@wayne network.
You can use your WSU AccessID and password to create up to 50 temporary AccessIDs at a time, which are active for a maximum of seven days. In doing so, you accept responsibility for your guest's use of university resources, according to Wayne State 's policy on Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources. A temporary AccessID does not provide access to any university computing system, such as WSU E-Mail or Pipeline, or to printing, copying or parking services on campus.
The Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) Network Services Department developed the Guest Wireless Access service to make campus computing for university guests more convenient.
Setting up Guest Wireless Access at Wayne State is simple. Visit http://computing.wayne.edu/network/guestwireless-info.php for additional information and instructions, if needed.
Before your guests arrive on campus, please guide them to our wireless@wayne Web page, so they can familiarize themselves with WSU's wireless network and view the computer recommendations required to connect.
You can log in to WSU's Guest Wireless Access System http://computing.wayne.edu/network/guestwireless-login.php at any time to obtain the list of active Guest AccessIDs you are sponsoring and their Activation and Expiration Dates.
For personal assistance accessing the wireless@wayne network, you or your guest can contact the C&IT Help Desk at (313) 577-4778 or helpdesk@wayne.edu.
