Using Blackboard with new Microsoft software
If you have or are considering an upgrade to your Microsoft Windows operating
system, your Web browser, or your Microsoft Office software, please be aware
of the following points:
- The Vista operating system has been certified to be compatible with
Blackboard. However, with the Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) or Firefox
2 Web browsers, buttons and icons do not render properly for Blackboard's
Content System Web Folders and Collaboration tools. A Microsoft patch
is required to solve these issues, but this patch is
yet to be released from Microsoft. For more information, see our Knowledgebase
article at:
http://kb.wayne.edu/index.php?article=1096
- Microsoft Office 2007 uses a new file format that does not allow
older versions of Office (Office 2000, XP, 2003) to open them. To open
Office 2007 documents in older versions of MS Office, you have to install
the Compatibility Pack provided by Microsoft. For more information,
see the MS Office 2007 category in our Knowledgebase at:
http://kb.wayne.edu/index.php?category=156
When these issues are resolved, C&IT will send you a follow-up e-mail
message.
If you have any questions, please contact the
C&IT Help Desk at (313) 577-4778
or helpdesk@wayne.edu.
Note: WSU students, faculty, and staff can purchase
Microsoft products through the Software Clearinghouse. For details, see http://computing.wayne.edu.
