Java upgrade for Banner requires a software update on desktop computers March 1, 2013
Note: All Banner users will need to install this update before March 10. This update is more current than the notice sent on February 19.
Why am I receiving this notice?
You are receiving this notice because you use Banner, and we want to be sure that you have continuous access to the system. There is a minor technical change that may affect your desktop computer's ability to access Banner. If you are the person that updates your desktop computer, then it is especially important that you read the info below and take action before March 10.
Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) staff are upgrading the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on Sunday morning, March 10, 2013. Java 1.6.0 Update 41 or higher will be needed to display Banner Forms over the Internet.
This latest version of Java contains the latest security patches for your browsers. Please note: Application Xtender users will continue to use Internet Explorer exclusively.

Banner users WITHOUT Install Privileges to their desktop computer should contact their technical support personnel:
Banner users WITH Install Privileges to their desktop computer: Download the Java update and follow the directions to install it:
The Java software upgrade on the Banner server will occur during C&IT's normal maintenance period from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, March 10.
To ensure uninterrupted access to Banner forms, Banner users have from now until Sunday, March 10 to make sure the computer they use to access Banner is running Java 1.6.0_41.
For Windows users:
If you are certain that you have install privileges, but do not receive the installation dialog box after clicking the link above, you will need to disable pop-up blockers by holding the “Ctrl” key when clicking the link.
IE 9 is not yet compliant for use with any WSU Administrative Systems. More details are available at: http://computing.wayne.edu/software-hardware/ie-9.php
Internet Explorer users can install Java after the upgrade on March 10 automatically the next time they access Banner. Firefox users must install Java using the link provided.
For Mac users:
If you stay on top of the latest Mac OS X updates (using "Software Update..." under the Apple menu), you have the latest version of Java on your computer.
