Merit Network Completes MiLR Upgrade January 29, 2013
Merit Network, Inc., Internet provider for Wayne State, announced that they have completed a scheduled equipment upgrade on the MiLR (Michigan LambdaRail) fiber ring. MiLR is an advanced research network that connects Wayne State researchers to colleagues at Michigan State University and University of Michigan and enables connections to national and international research and education connection points.
"I am pleased to announce the successful MiLR equipment upgrade," said Michael Milliken, director of Network Engineering, Merit Network. "The improved capacity enables improved collaboration and supports even the most advanced initiatives of these great research institutions."
"The MiLR upgrade allows Michigan research universities to be some of the first in the country to have access to an infrastructure of 100 Gbps," said Roy Hockett, network architect, ITS Communications Systems and Data Centers, University of Michigan.
Wayne State is a founding member and owner of Merit Network, which owns and operates America’s longest-running regional research and education network.
