If you are on the Wayne State campus and connect directly to WSU computer networks, or if you use the WSU Virtual Private Network (VPN) you probably will not have any trouble with firewalls or authentication.
On the other hand, if you access WSU's Web services with a remote connection (from off campus), you may encounter problems. Some of the common reasons are:
The tips below might help you solve your problem.
To access WSU's online resources, such as WSU Pipeline, the Blackboard Learning System, or WSU WebMail, use one of the browsers listed on the C&IT Help Desk Supported Software page.
You can access your WSU E-mail on the Web through WSU Pipeline or directly using WSU WebMail. If you have problems, try using one of the browsers listed on the C&IT Help Desk Supported Software page.
If you use an e-mail application (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) and have problems sending mail from home, check your e-mail manager's configuration. See Settings for WSU AccessID e-mail.
Some of WSU Library System resources (licensed databases and subscriptions) require authentication before you can use them. When you try to access a service requiring authentication, the Library System's EZProxy displays a page that prompts you for your AccessID and password. Type your AccessID and the same password you use for WSU E-mail and WSU Pipeline. After you enter them, the requested database displays. Your access to the WSU Library System resources continues until you close your Web browser.
To connect remotely to Banner (from off campus) use WSU's Virtual Private Network (VPN) or WayneConnect.
