An e-mail message from a WSU AccessID can be impersonal and sometimes confusing. Who is xy6789@wayne.edu? You can make it easier for the people you send mail by adding your name along with your e-mail address in the From: header in outgoing e-mail messages. These instructions offer suggestions on how to do that.
You don't have to do anything in WSU WebMail. When you log in with your AccessID or E-mail Name, it automatically knows who you are and puts your name on your outgoing messages.
If you don't usually go by your "official" Wayne State name, however, use the following instructions to set WebMail so that it uses the name you prefer.
If you use a software program for e-mail, such as Entourage, Outlook, or Thunderbird, you can still personalize it to include your name. All mail programs have a place in which you can set your identity — that is, what name shows up in the From: field of your message. You just have to do some searching to find it.
Look through your e-mail software pull-down menus for one of the following and go from there.
For more details, look in the help files that come with your e-mail software.
Another way to add your name to your e-mail is to set an E-mail Name and use it in place of your AccessID. See Set an E-mail Name for details.
