Adding your name to outgoing e-mail

Contents

An e-mail message from a WSU AccessID can be impersonal and sometimes confusing. Who is xy6789@wayne.edu? You can make it easier for the people you send mail by adding your name along with your e-mail address in the From: header in outgoing e-mail messages. This page offers suggestions on how to do this.

Personalize your e-mail when using Wayne Connect

You don't have to do anything in Wayne Connect. When you log in with your AccessID or E-mail Name, it automatically knows who you are and puts your name on your outgoing messages.

If you don't usually go by your "official" Wayne State name, you can modify how your name appears in Wayne Connect. You can do this in the Web interface by clicking on Preferences, and then the Accounts tab. Under Primary Account Settings, type in your name as you want it to appear in your e-mail. Then click Save in the upper-left corner of the window.

Personalize your e-mail when using e-mail software

If you use a software program for e-mail, such as Entourage, Outlook, or Thunderbird, you can still personalize it to include your name. All mail programs have a place in which you can set your identity — that is, what name shows up in the From: field of your message. You just have to do some searching to find it.

Look through your e-mail software pull-down menus for one of the following and go from there.

Personalize your e-mail by setting an E-mail Name

Another way to add your name to your e-mail is to set an E-mail Name and use it in place of your AccessID. See Set an E-mail Name for details.
