What is it?

The Blackboard Academic Suite is a course management and learning system chosen by Wayne State faculty in 1999 for its full features and ease of use. This Web-based course system delivers all or part of many regularly scheduled University courses; provides a secure location on the Web for course materials, e-Portfolios, and storing and managing files; includes tools for creating and delivering online assessments and surveys and for storing student performance results; enhances teaching and learning; and increases communication and collaboration among students and faculty.

Blackboard is easily accessed on a computer connected to the Internet—anywhere, any time.

Who can use it?

Blackboard is available for use by Wayne State students, faculty, and staff.

Student use depends on how the instructor chooses to use it. Check with your instructors at the start of each semester.

Faculty can use Blackboard in any way that they are comfortable — from having a syllabus and contact information online to creating a complete course along with comprehensive course materials supplemented with communication and collaboration through real-time chats, threaded discussions, class e-mail, and online file exchanges.

Instructors can post lecture notes, handouts, grades, assignments and much more. They can conduct live chat sessions, and give online assessments. Other features include an online discussion board and a digital dropbox to exchange files.

What do I need?

All courses in Blackboard are password protected. To use Blackboard, you log in with your WSU AccessID and password at blackboard.wayne.edu or through WSU Pipeline.
