  1. Setting up the system configuration

Check the settings on the computer, as indicated below, and change them where needed. You probably will need the Windows System CD-ROM, so get it out and have it on hand.

    1. Open the Network window as follows:
      1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
      2. Click Network Connections.
      3. Click Local Area Connection.
      4. On the Local Area Connection Status window, click the Properties button.
    2. Modify the TCP/IP protocol configuration as follows:
      1. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) component and then click the Properties button.
      2. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, click the Advanced... button.
      3. In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, click the WINS tab.
      4. In the WINS addresses box, look at the IP addresses that are defined.

Note: C&IT provides two mirrored WIN servers as a centralized resource for the University community. If other IP addresses are already listed, talk with your local computer support person before continuing this step.

You must enter at least one of the following IP addresses for access to Banner:

             141.217.1.91
             141.217.1.93

      5. Close the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window by clicking OK.

      7. Close the Local Area Connection Properties window by clicking Close.
      8. Close the Local Area Connection Status window by clicking Close.
    3. In order to access SMARTi, the computer you are using must be able to send plain text passwords to the wsuadmin share. Use the instructions in steps 1 to 6 to modify the Windows registry and add the value needed so you can send plain text passwords.

Warning! If you are not an experienced user, ask your local computer support person to help you. Editing the Windows registry incorrectly can cause irreversible damage to the computer's configuration and could require a full re-install of Windows.
