Using Oracle JInitiator with WSU Banner Tools
To work with Banner you must have Oracle's JInitiator version
installed on your computer. JInitiator is available for download
below in the Download JInitiator section.
The installation process for JInitiator is straightforward and takes about
five minutes. There are two ways to install JInitiator. However, in order
to do the install, you must have administrative rights
to your computer (i.e., you need to go to your tech support person for new
software to be installed). If you don't have those rights, you will need to
contact your local technical
support staff.
- Download JInitiator manually – Download
the version of JInitiator you need using the link below. (Note: this option
is available for power users also.)
- Download JInitiator automatically – If you do not
have JInitiator already installed, the first time you access
a Banner tool that requires it, you will be prompted to download the version you need.
Accept the download and follow the prompts during the installation process.
Before you download, note the following:
- Must have administrator rights to Windows.
- Read Administrative Desktop Computing Specifications regarding
the Web browsers and operating systems required.
- Set
your Web browser to allow pop-up windows from wayne.edu.
- If your download is blocked
by your Internet Explorer security setting and an ActiveX pop-up displays on the
top of the screen, click it. Then, when the next pop-up displays, click the Install
ActiveX control option (first option). An Internet Explorer Security
warning will pop up asking whether you want to install this software. Click
the Install button
to process the install. Then click next and click OK to
finish.
Download JInitiator
Click the link below to download JInitiator. Then locate the downloaded
file, and double-click it to install. After installation you will need to restart
your browser.
Important Note: If the first time you go to use
Banner after installation, a JInitiator security warning pops up on the screen.
Choose the "grant
always option" and
you will not see this pop-up again.
