Installing the SMARTi Client Software on a Computer Set Up to Access the Banner System at WSU

SMARTi COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) client software is used to access Banner Reports, highly detailed electronic reports, similar to the "production" reports that contain data from WSU's administrative systems and are generated centrally and distributed to units on paper.

Not all users of Banner FMS will need to access Banner Reports. See Banner Reporting Options. If you never dealt with production reports in the past, you probably will not need to download and install this client software.

If you run into problems following the installation instructions below, contact the Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) Help Desk in any of the following ways:

If you are installing SMARTi on a computer running Windows NT, you must log in using the administrator ID or another ID that has local administrator access.

IMPORTANT NOTES

C&IT only supports SMARTi COLD use with the Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP operating system. To find out what level Windows Operating System is on your computer:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Settings and then Control Panel.
  3. Double-click System.
  4. Check that the information on the Systems Properties window meets or exceeds the requirements listed below, and then click OK.

SMARTi COLD client software can only be installed on a computer that is already set up to access the old Banner Systems at Wayne State. For instructions on how to do this, see Windows 2000 or XP Pro Setup for SMARTi Access. Also see Administrative Desktop Computing Standards.
