Backup Services for Basic Co-Location Server Hosting is an additional service offering for those Wayne State University schools, colleges, and divisions (S/C/Ds) that have already moved their servers into the C&IT data center. This allows server administrators to backup server data and operating systems to the centralized backup environment. In addition to onsite storage, the backup environment as a whole is backed up and sent off site, thus maximizing the redundancy of your data. This service is available to all WSU units that run University-owned and managed servers that will be or are already currently hosted at the C&IT data center.
- Installation of NetBackup client utility
- Backup of data to the NetBackup environment
- Daily migration of NetBackup tapes to a third-party offsite storage facility (Iron Mountain)
- Retrieval of requested backup tapes from onsite or offsite storage
The cost is $300 per year per server up to 100 GB of storage. Additional data can be backed up for $125 per 100 GB. Weekly copies sent off-site (Iron Mountain) for 45 days can be purchased for $35 per 100 GB.
There is a separate backup client for those servers which are running database services. If you have a server that is running database services, there would be an additional fee and C&IT can provide you with a quote.
To discuss how your department might take advantage of this service, please contact the C&IT Help Desk at (313) 577-4778, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, to schedule a discovery meeting.
