About the WSU AccessID
What is it?
The WSU AccessID is a unique identification code assigned to each WSU applicant/student and each new faculty member and staff person. The AccessID and password combination
is the key to accessing computing services and resources at Wayne State — such as WSU Pipeline, Wayne Connect (WSU E-mail), the Blackboard Learning System, or WSU administrative systems (WSU faculty and staff only).
Who can use AccessID services?
Anyone with the AccessID and password combination can use AccessID-based services. However, which services are available to you depends on your affiliation with WSU. See our table of services for more information.
What do I need to use AccessID services?
In order to use the AccessID services available to you, you need to:
- Know your AccessID: It is 2 letters + 4 numbers (like xy6789). If you are a student, it was mailed to you when you applied. Also, your AccessID is printed on your OneCard; or you can look it up yourself in the WSU Online Directory .
- Know your AccessID password: Your temporary password is the 9-digit personal ID (PID) number. If you are a student, it was mailed to you as an applicant. It also is printed on your OneCard. You are prompted to change this password the first time you log in to WSU Pipeline (see below).
- Log in to WSU Pipeline and set up self-services: Go to WSU Pipeline and log in using your AccessID and password. If you are new, the system knows it and asks you to:
- Change your temporary AccessID password to one that meets the requirements of the WSU Strong Password Standard.
- Set up a challenge question and response (so you can change your password yourself if you forget it).
- After you're admitted — activate WSU E-mail and access
more AccessID services: Log in to WSU Pipeline (even if you did before).
You are now asked to set up these WSU E-mail features:
- Mail Forwarding: Send Wayne Connect e-mail directly to the e-mail address you use most often (such as from a WSU school or department, AOL, or Hotmail).
- E-mail Name: Personalize your Wayne Connect e-mail address so you can use a name instead of your AccessID for e-mail. For example, if your AccessID is "xy6789" and you designate "johndoe," then you could use "johndoe@wayne.edu" for your WSU e-mail address.
What if I forget my AccessID or password?
If you forget your AccessID, you can look it up in the WSU
Online Directory or call the Computing & Information Technology (C&IT)
Help Desk, (313) 577-4778.
If you forget your password, AND you have set a challenge question
and response (see above), you can reset your password
yourself. Any time of the day or night, you can go to WSU Pipeline and click the Forgot
your password? link
on the log-in page (on the left side), or you can go directly to the Password
Reset page from here. Type your AccessID in the window and click OK.
On the next screen, answer the challenge question you set previously and change
your password.
What if I want to change my password or challenge question?
If you know your password and want to change it or want to
change your challenge question, log in to WSU Pipeline and
click Account,
click the appropriate
link, and follow the instructions on the screen.
