About the service categories in the
2007 WSU Information Technology Services Survey
Thank you for participating in the 2007 WSU IT Services Survey. Your answers
will help Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) management assess
where we are, and where you would like us to improve.
For more information about the IT services just surveyed, check the following:
- WSU Pipeline – WSU's secure Internet gateway/portal that provides access to a wide range of self-services, such as Web registration, financial aid status, tuition payment, training registration, computing systems (WSU WebMail, Blackboard, OneCard, etc.), employee benefits, WebTime entry, etc., and to University information for students, faculty, and employees.
- Blackboard – An online course management system for faculty that provides students with access to course materials, such as syllabi, Discussion Boards, assignments, tests, course grades, shared documents, e-Portfolios, etc.
- WSU E-mail – The university's centrally provided E-mail System and your "@wayne.edu" e-mail
address, WSU E-Mail is accessible in numerous ways: via WebMail (through
WSU Pipeline or at webmail.wayne.edu) or using an e-mail program such as
Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Eudora.
- WSU's Technology Resource Center (TRC) – A
convenient place for faculty and instructors to design and develop instructional
experiences for the classroom and online teaching environments. The TRC is
located on the first floor of the Purdy/Kresge Library. Partners in this
innovative center include: the Office for Teaching & Learning, Computing & Information
Technology, and Library Computing and Media Services.
- WSU's Advanced Computing
Grid – Houses and manages research-related projects that require high speed computation, parallel and distributed computing, data management, and computationally intensive applications.
- WSU's Telecommunications Services – Campus telephones, VoiceMail, teleconferencing, data network connections, support, repair, and billing services.
- Web Hosting Services – A Wayne State school, college, or department can use Web Hosting Services to publish its Website on a secure, central Web server, rather than operating a local Web server.
- Banner and Cognos – Banner is the
database system used at WSU for administrative services. Cognos
ReportNet is a suite of reporting applications used to create and run reports.
- Software Clearinghouse – Provides
Wayne State students, faculty, and staff with free and deeply discounted
software.
- Camput Wireless Network – wireless@wayne,
a network that provides wireless Internet access on Wayne State's main and
medical campuses and at the Oakland Center and is exclusively for use by
WSU students, faculty, staff, and guests.
- ResNet – The Internet access
service provided to students, faculty and staff living in WSU's residence
halls and apartment buildings.
- IT Support Services – Services
Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) provides, including
the C&IT Help Desk, Blackboard Support Team, Research Consulting, and the
online services, such as the WSU Knowledgebase (kb.wayne.edu)
and C&IT's
Website (computing.wayne.edu).
- C&IT Communication Services – C&IT's
communications to the campus community, including e-mail notices, online
computing news, and or brochures/flyers.
- Technology Training – WSU's
technology training programs, such as Blackboard training, Banner or Cognos
sessions, and Drop-in Computer Workshops at the Library.
